Plate I01
Stone Town, a Zanzibari door at noon.
Stone Town, noon
Zanzibar is the island that closes a Tanzania safari. Stone Town for the carved-door heritage walk, Nungwi or Kendwa on the north coast for the reef-protected beaches. Three nights as the salt-water end of a bushveld trip. Best between June and October. The same window as the Serengeti.
Six plates from the studio's last two years. Carved doors in Stone Town, a north-coast dhow at sunset, a spice-farm cardamom morning.
Tibro has been routing Zanzibar since 2018. Seven years of Stone-Town-and-north-coast trips that close Tanzania safari weeks.
We work with a Stone-Town-based partner for the door walks and the spice farm, and a north-coast hotel team for the beach end.
One route is what we currently maintain. The Serengeti-and-Zanzibar nine-night is the most-requested combination; Zanzibar always sits on the back of the safari.
Warmly,
The Tibro studio , Mumbai, Stone Town (partner), Nungwi (coast)
Two letters from the last twelve months.
Four Serengeti nights, two Ngorongoro, three Zanzibar. One night in Stone Town for the carved-door walk and the spice farm, two on the north coast at Nungwi. The contrast between the bush and the salt-water was the trip's right shape. The Zanzibar three nights were what the Serengeti had earned us.
Five nights at Kendwa with one day in Stone Town. The reef-protected beach was the kind of low-tide-walking ankle-deep water our children loved. The Stone Town carved-door walk was an hour we did not expect to enjoy as much as we did.
Two questions decide a Zanzibar chapter: how many nights, and which coast. North for the protected reefs, east for the open Indian Ocean.
