Preface
Peru is the country you should land slowly into. Lima at sea level for two days, Cusco at three thousand four hundred metres for two more, and only then the Sacred Valley and the citadel. Two Lima days, two Cusco acclimation days, two Sacred Valley days, one Machu Picchu day, one back in Cusco. Best between May and September. The Andean dry season, which is also the high-season for the Inca Trail.

Tibro has been routing Peru since 2017. Eight years of Lima nights, Cusco acclimation days, Sacred Valley terrace afternoons, and the Machu Picchu morning that closes almost every trip.
We work with a Cusco-based partner desk run by Mateo (originally a Sacred Valley archaeologist whose old dig site is on day-three of our Pisac route) and a Lima food-walker who has eaten across Barranco with our travellers since 2018.
Hotels in the Sacred Valley are the trip's quiet move. Staying at two thousand eight hundred metres in the valley instead of three thousand four hundred in Cusco is what protects the altitude. We hold rooms at four properties year-round and pick by traveller.
Three routes is what we offer. Adding a fourth only happens when a Cusco-resident designer has walked it first; the Peru classic eight-night remains the most-requested, and we route Lima before Cusco because landing straight from sea-level into the altitude is the trip's worst mistake.

Peru classic, eight nights, May 2024
Lima for two, Sacred Valley for two for the acclimation, Cusco for two, Machu Picchu day, Cusco again. Mateo's altitude brief on the first Cusco evening. Coca tea, slow walking, no alcohol the first night. Is what the rest of the week was built on. The Machu Picchu morning was a Tibro five-thirty bus and the citadel was almost empty for the first hour.

Peru & Amazon, eleven nights, August 2024
Classic Peru then three nights at a Tambopata river lodge. The clay-lick morning with the macaws at six in the morning was the trip's other peak, after Machu Picchu. The Lima food evenings Mateo's coordinator routed were the small ceviche bars and one famous restaurant. The contrast was the point.

Lima, Cusco, Machu Picchu, Puno on Lake Titicaca, La Paz, Uyuni salt flats. The Uyuni morning at three thousand six hundred metres. The salt flats as a mirror after the night rain. Was the trip's silent moment. The border crossings the studio had pre-arranged kept the trip moving the whole way.
