Boudhanath, and the eyes at six in the morning.
Kathmandu, 6:30 AM

Nepal is the country two larger countries have not yet flattened. The Kathmandu Valley alone holds three medieval city-squares within twenty kilometres of each other, each with its own kings and its own woodwork. Two days for the Valley, two for Pokhara and the Annapurna view, two for Chitwan if you want the lowland jungle, and the Buddhist circuit on the back of an India trip. Best between October and early April, with the windows on either side of the monsoon clearest for the mountains.

Tibro has been routing Nepal since 2016. Nine years of Valley heritage trips, Pokhara mornings, Chitwan jungle weekends, and the India-Nepal Buddhist pilgrimages that come over the Sunauli border from Varanasi.
We work with a Patan-resident partner desk run by Anish (originally a heritage-conservation architect on the Patan Royal Palace restoration) and a separate Pokhara coordinator who drives the Sarangkot dawn run with our travellers six days a week in the season.
Hotels in Kathmandu are a courtyard-or-not problem. The Newari heritage hotels around Patan and Bhaktapur for the second-time traveller, the Thamel-edge five-stars for the first. We hold rooms at four properties year-round and pick by traveller.
Four routes is what we currently maintain. The Valley-plus-Pokhara six-night is the most-requested; we route Sarangkot at 5 AM on day four because the Annapurna range only shows for the first hour after the cloud lifts.
Warmly,
The Tibro studio , Mumbai, Patan (partner), Pokhara (mountain liaison)
Three Kathmandu nights, three Pokhara. Anish met us in Patan on the first morning and walked us through the bronze workshops as if they were extensions of his own studio. Which, given his conservation background, they almost were. The Sarangkot 5 AM drive was the moment the trip became Nepal-specific; we stood in the cold for forty minutes and watched the range come out of the mist. Came home wanting Chitwan on the next visit.
Valley, Pokhara, Chitwan, all in the right order. The Bhaktapur evening Anish arranged. A private rooftop dinner in a Newari heritage house with the Nyatapola temple lit at the end of the square. Was the meal the trip will be remembered for. The Chitwan canoe morning down the Rapti river, with the gharials on the bank, was the kind of detail you cannot book on a website.
Varanasi into Kushinagar into Lumbini, with two Kathmandu nights at the end. The Sunauli border crossing the studio had pre-arranged was the part we had been bracing for, and the part Tibro made invisible. One driver per leg, paperwork handled, ninety minutes across. The hour we had alone in the Maya Devi temple at first light was the trip in a single image.
Two questions decide a Nepal trip: how many nights, and which anchor. Valley alone, Pokhara added, Chitwan on the back. Anish in Patan writes back inside the working day with hotels held on a tentative.
