Halászbástya, seven turrets at six in the morning.
Buda, 6:30 AM

Hungary is one of those countries where the capital is most of the trip. The Danube cuts Budapest in two. Buda on the hill, Pest on the flat. And a four-day stay barely covers the bridges, the baths, and the second coffee at the New York Café. Three days for Budapest, two for Eger or Tokaj, and a Habsburg loop into Vienna and Prague when you have the week. Best between April and October. And December for the Christmas markets in Vörösmarty Square.

Tibro has been routing Hungary since 2018. Seven years of Budapest weekends, Tokaj wine afternoons, and the Vienna-Budapest-Prague nine-night arcs that travellers come back wanting to do the other way around.
We work with a Budapest-based partner desk run by Eszter (originally a State Opera dramaturg) and an Eger-Tokaj wine-country coordinator who has driven our travellers to three cellars in three days since 2019.
Hotels in Budapest are a Buda-or-Pest problem. The Pest side for the markets and metros, the Buda side for the view back across the Danube. We hold rooms at four properties year-round and pick by traveller.
Four routes is what we currently maintain. The Vienna-Budapest-Prague nine-night is the most-requested; we route in that order because the Habsburg empire ended in Vienna and starting there sets the tone for the next two capitals.
Warmly,
The Tibro studio , Mumbai, Budapest (partner), Tokaj (wine liaison)
Eszter walked us to Halászbástya at six in the morning on the first day and the bastion was completely empty. The city below us still dark. The Széchenyi thermal afternoon was the moment we accepted Budapest was going to be a longer trip than we had planned for. The Chain Bridge after dinner on the last night was the picture we are still showing people.
Vienna for three, Budapest for four, Prague for three. The train days the studio routed in were as carefully planned as the city days. A one-hour breakfast at the Vienna station, the four-hour Budapest leg with the Danube on the right, the night-train into Prague. Eszter in Budapest handed us to Magdalena in Prague and the trip felt seamless.
Three Budapest nights, two Eger, two Tokaj. The Bull's Blood tasting in Eger was a small-cellar visit the studio had pre-arranged that we would never have known to ask for. The Tokaj sweet-wine cellar on the last afternoon, the candle and the oak, was the meal of the trip even though there was no meal.
Two questions decide a Hungary trip: how many cities. Budapest only, or the Vienna-Prague arc. And which season, spring or December for the markets. Eszter in Budapest writes back inside the working day with hotels held on a tentative.
