Preface
Finland is a country built around two questions. When is the sun up, and when is the sky dark enough for the aurora. The first matters from May to August; the second from September to March. Pick which half of the year you came for, and the rest is detail. The Finns themselves are unhurried about this. They have been living through both for a thousand winters.

Tibro has been routing Finland since 2016. Nine winters of glass igloos, aurora hunts, husky farms, and the Helsinki city day at either end. The earliest trips taught us which igloo properties have actually clean glass and which had given up by 2019.
We work with a Rovaniemi-based partner studio run by Liisa (formerly a Finnair Lapland operations coordinator) and a Helsinki-based DMC for the summer southern trips. Liisa watches the cloud forecast for our travellers every night they are above the Arctic Circle.
Hotels in Lapland are a winter problem. Corporate brands and small wilderness lodges look interchangeable on a website and are anything but in real life. We will tell you which third have soul, and which winterised igloos are still up to the standard they claim.
Eighteen routes is what we currently maintain. Adding one requires Liisa to have personally stayed at the property in the past winter season, and to have driven the aurora route herself.

Saariselkä & Helsinki, seven nights, January 2025
Three nights of Saariselkä in a glass-roofed cabin and we caught the aurora on the second night. The studio had also moved our husky safari from morning to afternoon when the forecast turned, without asking. Liisa just texted to say it had been done. Helsinki for two nights at the end with a private design-walk of Aalto buildings. The trip you book hoping the lights show up; the lights showed up, and so did everyone else.

Rovaniemi with the children, six nights, December 2024
Two children, six and nine, and Tibro had us at a family-run lodge thirty minutes outside Rovaniemi that does husky, reindeer, and a Santa morning that does not feel like a queue. The aurora came on night four. Liisa woke us at half past midnight after watching the forecast for our specific village. The children still talk about the sled ride home through the pines.

Scandinavian capitals, eleven nights, February 2025
Helsinki, Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen, in that order, with two Lapland nights pinned to the front. The aurora came on the Lapland night two, and the Tibro Stockholm partner knew exactly which Vasa Museum slot is the quiet one. Every connection. Every train, every airport transfer. Was already arranged before we landed. We never once stood in a queue.
