Bhutan was the last country to get television, in 1999, and the first to measure itself in happiness rather than gross product. It is not a country one passes through; the visa fee alone makes sure of that. What we sell here is fewer days, not more. A first visit is six nights, paced so the altitude never bites and the country has time to do what it does. Which is to slow you down without ever asking you to.

Bhutan is a small kingdom and a small operation. Tibro has been routing visitors there since 1998, the year after the kingdom first opened to organised tourism through licensed Indian operators.
We work with three Bhutanese ground partners, all family-run, all licensed by the Tourism Council. Our designer Tenzin sits in Thimphu and writes the days you will spend; what arrives in your inbox is what she sends, edited only for the dates you give us.
The Sustainable Development Fee that Bhutan asks of every visitor is paid in full, on top of the trip cost. We do not discount it, mark it up, or quietly absorb it. It is, in our view, the most honest line item in the kingdom's economy.
Eight routes is everything we offer. We have refused to write a ninth until we have something to say with it.

Bhutan, six nights, April 2025
We had planned Bhutan for the wrong reasons. A bucket-list visa, a single hike, a photograph. Tenzin in Thimphu wrote me a five-page letter before we landed that quietly dismantled all three. We came home with no photograph that felt important, one extra day in Punakha that we asked for ourselves, and a quiet that has not yet left.

Jomolhari trek, ten nights, October 2024
I have walked in Nepal and Ladakh and the Andes. Bhutan was the first time a guide carried no electronics for the first three days and politely refused mine. We saw a snow leopard on day six. I am not going to tell you about it; you should go for your own reason. Tibro and Tenzin made the trip possible without making it small.

Bhutan & Sikkim, eleven nights, March 2025
We did the obvious. Taktsang at dawn, Punakha for two nights, the Dochula chortens. But the trip turned at Gangtey, where Tenzin had booked us into a farmhouse rather than a hotel and the family insisted we eat dinner with them on the floor. That is not a thing you can book on a website. Three months later we are still talking about it.
